Is there a better feeling than taking off your sandals and letting your toes sink into soft beach sand? We think not. Add to this a view of aquamarine waters framed by filao trees and a soundtrack of chirping tree frogs and exotic birdsong while relaxing under the shade of a tiered thatched hideaway. We’ve definitely found paradise at LUX* Grand Gaube resort.
The resort is named after the fishing village next door where it gets its fresh fish, crab and lobster (truly a seafood lover’s dream!) … you need to try the delectable grilled seafood at one of the resort’s three restaurants. We loved dining under the stars, a cocktail in hand, gazing at the magnificent ocean views – which don’t end on a lounger on the beach.
All the rooms have a picture-perfect postcard view, but sometimes we caught ourselves staring at the creamy white and sea green décor inside our spacious private nooks as well. (What can we say … we’re suckers for a gorgeous room!) Whether you’re a honeymooning couple or a small family it’s got a perfect room for you – ranging from the Deluxe Rooms (hello, romance) to the Emperor Villa (family fun time). All the rooms have fully-furnished balconies or terraces, air conditioning and Wi-Fi access, guaranteeing that a lounging sesh on your king size bed will be a super-comfy one.
Okay, so we weren’t planning on lying on our beds all day (as amazing as that sounded) and decided to trade in our view of the ocean for a more close-up look – one underwater. And boy, was it worth it! It’s like diving into another world (literally!), with beautiful schools of tropical fish flitting past you, wafting along the reef. For more experienced divers, the resort offers wreck diving … you can release your inner adventurer by exploring the amazing ruins of ships long forgotten, where many little sea critters have made their homes – and all this entertainment is only minutes away from the island!
Once back on dry land and freshly slipped out of our wetsuits, we thought a spa day was in order. The LUX* Grand Gaube’s offering is definitely not your run-of-the-mill spa. It’s part of the resort’s Well-Nest – an entire hectare of land dedicated to your wellness! After our athletic endeavours, we settled in for a much-needed massage (scuba diving was a lot more exercise than we thought it would be!), but it also has yoga and meditation classes on offer and indoor and outdoor gyms for those looking to maintain their beach bodies.
If this is not your cup of tea, you could practise your swing on the golf course, then go for a helicopter flip or seaplane flight (turtle spotting over the coral reef and a longer flight with a pit stop picnic sounds pretty fab if you ask us).
But the fun doesn’t stop there … a must-try is a trip to the resort’s open-air cinema, complete with bean bag chairs, coconut palms, a sea breeze and of course, more cocktails (is there a better way to end the day?).
From dining on fresh lobster to diving along the reef and turtle spotting on a helicopter flip, there’s always an adventure waiting in paradise … also known as LUX* Grand Gaube.
