Worth the drive…

It’s a Sunday, Monday is looming and quite frankly it’s time to get out of the city. Destination: Silver Orange Bistro. What a cracking spot! Trees, nature, fresh air, what more could one ask for? Sip ice cold wine from the award-winning wine list, and take in the beautiful surroundings of this fantastic restaurant out in Hartbeespoort. It’s in and around a charming thatched manor house in a lush citrus orchard called Altyd Mooi, that’s been in the family since 1978. The delish menu is changed according to the season by executive chef and owner Leon Nel, using only the freshest ingredients. We definitely recommend arriving hungry. For starters we devoured the portobello mushroom paté served with a port jelly and the crispiest crostini. Then we tucked into the signature Silver Orange sirloin, accompanied with milho frito, peppercorn and Madeira sauce plus delish veggies. Also worth sampling is the pan fried duck breast … it’s so tender it simply melts in your mouth. Too yummy for words! It (almost) gave us food envy… We also discovered that nestled in the orchards is Almost Orange, a second restaurant that serves fabulous sharing platters – perfect for a day out with friends and family. We’ll most certainly be back for that. Silver Orange may be the name, but it sure serves gold! Details: www.silverorangebistro.co.za
